Three people were injured following a motor-vehicle crash near Otane on Saturday. The accident happened on SH2 around 10.30am, just north of Otane. Only one vehicle was involved in the accident, with the three people receiving minor to moderate injuries. Two people were taken to hospital following a motor vehicle accident between Waipawa and Waipukurau on Friday. Emergency services were called just after 11am to the crash between a ute and a sedan. Maharakeke Road was closed for a number of hours yesterday after a truck and trailer carrying fertiliser tipped over. Emergency services were called to the accident around 9am. New solar powered compacting rubbish bins are to be placed around the Tararua District. The “BigBelly” bins will initially be used in remote areas that have a steady stream of visitors where usage varies widely. Police has released the name of a man who died following a crash on SH50, between Tikokino and Maraekakaho, on Friday. 37-year-old David John O’Sullivan of Crownthorpe died following an accident between a truck and a pedestrian at about 6pm Friday.
