The inaugural Elsthorpe Invitational Cricket Tournament was played yesterday.

Teams from eight local primary schools – Waipawa, Elsthorpe, Tikokino, Pukehou, Waipukurau, Omakere, Flemington and OngaOnga took to the pitch.

The games were seven overs each.

The final was played between Waipawa and Waipukurau schools, with Waipawa winning by three runs.

The Waipawa Butchery CHB Men’s Premier cricket team are in action tonight in the Murray McKearney Memorial T20 competition.

The locals will play Cornwall at Cornwall Park from 5pm in their Round 3 game.

Meanwhile the CHB Cricket Club Racecourse Road Dairy 3rds team will play tomorrow, taking on Havelock North at Frimley Park from 1.30pm.

There will be delays for traffic through Waipawa next week while Waka Kotahi crews undertake repairs on State Highway 2.

Motorists are asked to plan ahead for five days of STOP/GO activity for five days, beginning Monday.

Crews will be on-site overnight from 6pm to 5am, and then again between 9.30am and 2pm on the stretch between Tamumu Road and Victoria Street.

Waka Kotahi says traffic in both directions will be held up intermittently for 15 minutes at a time.

Fisheries Officers will follow-up with the occupants of two vehicles stopped by Police last week following a tip-off from a member of the public.

Senior Constable Andy Walker said Fisheries staff were alerted to the two vehicles leaving Mangakuri Beach last Friday, with local Police stopping them.

He said a number of undersize paua, the smallest around half-size, were recovered.

Mr Walker said the incident was referred to Fisheries, who will follow-up with enforcement action.

The annual Shires Fruit & Vege Market Dannevirke Christmas Parade is on tomorrow.

The Metservice is forecasting an overcast, but fine, day with a high of around 15 degrees for tomorrow.

The parade will get underway at midday, making its way along High Street, and finish-up in McPhee Street.

Parade registrations are being taken up until 2pm today, with forms available on the Central FM website or at the Dannevirke Information Centre.
