Central Hawke’s Bay Police are investigating further burglaries around the district.

Senior Constable Andy Walker said among the items taken include a four-wheeler bike stolen from a shed on a property on Ashcott Road.

Two weeks ago, Police remined owners of beach houses to check them following break-ins at Pourerere and Blackhead.

Andy Walker said property owners should make sure everything is locked away.

A Dannevirke Lotto Strike player has won $700,000.

The lucky ticket was sold for Saturday nights draw from Dannevirke Four Square.

The ticket had all four numbers correctly to win the top prize.

Anyone who purchased a Strike ticket from Dannevirke Four Square is asked to write their name on the back, and get it checked as soon as possible.

A Heavy Snow Watch is in place for Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne overnight tonight.

In the period from 7pm tonight until 3am tomorrow, Metservice says there will be a period of heavy snow above 800 metres, where accumulations may approach warning amounts.

Lower amounts of snow may fall to 600m, according to forecasters.

The most affected area will be from the Kaweka Forest Park northwards.

Metservice also says the amount of snow could reach warning criteria for inland Hawke’s Bay overnight tonight.

A Road Snowfall Warning has also been issued for the Napier-Taupo Road.

From 5pm today until 3am tomorrow, 10 to 15cm of snow is expected to accumulate on the road above 700 metres.

Meanwhile our spell of fine weather over the first four days of spring is coming to an end.

Heavy rain is expected for Hawke’s Bay today, with strong southeasterlies expected from evening.

Gale Warnings are also in force for the sea areas Portland and Castlepoint, with southwest swells of up to 4 metres today.

After leading for much of the game, the Magpies suffered their second loss of the Bunnings Warehouse NPC, beaten by Canterbury 32-28 yesterday.

The Magpies scored the opening points of the game and lead 13-5 at the half-time break.

This coming weekend, Hawke’s Bay put the Ranfurly Shield on the line, playing Southland at McLean Park on Saturday.
