The Central Hawke’s Bay District Council is to carry out an investigation into options for repairing Cooks Tooth Road.

In an update yesterday, the Council said a slip is affecting the road at approximately 7.4 kilometres.

Traffic management and signage is currently in place, and Council is asking motorists to exercise caution when driving through the area.

Meanwhile Downer is repairing a long stretch of Elsthorpe Road.

The Council said the road will remain unsealed until next week, and ask drivers using the stretch of road to drive with caution.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Councillors have voted to defer nearly $260,000 in charges owed to it by Water Holdings Hawke’s Bay.

Water Holdings, which owns the consents for the Ruataniwha water storage scheme, had asked the Council for the deferral until the consents could be exercised.

Along with the nearly $260,000 currently owed, another $150,000 will be due by March 2023.

It was a close vote on the matter – with five councillors in favour, and four voting against.

Central Hawke’s Bay College will play off for 5th to 8th place in the North Island Secondary Schools Hockey Tournament in Whangarei.

Yesterday the college team played Huanui College and went down 1-nil with only two minutes of the game to go.

Team Manager Glen Millar said the grandstand was full for the game, with a number of officials also watching on.

The tournament playoffs take place today and tomorrow.
