Emergency services were called after a truck and trailer left the road and took out a power pole on Wednesday night.

The incident happened on State Highway 2 between Fraser Road and Taniwha Daffodils about 8.30pm.

A police spokesperson said the trailer drifted off the edge of the road, with the truck forced to go with it to avoid a rollover.

Traffic management was put in place while the scene was cleared.

Power was cut to more than 100 Centralines customers for nearly four hours.

It is understood another accident on the same stretch of road occurred yesterday, and was the fourth within a 200m stretch in the last week.

Central Hawke’s Bays Civic Awards were presented last night.

Yonne and Kim Macaulay, the Reverend Dot King, Di Kittow, Carmel Thompson, and Jane Wyn-Harris were all recognised for their valuable contribution to the Central Hawke’s Bay community.

Family and friends of recipients gathered at the CHB Municipal Theatre in Waipawa for the awards ceremony.

Nick Hill has joined Sharon Wards and Tracey Collis in the mayoral race.

Alex Walker remained the only nomination for CHB’s mayoralty as at yesterday.

Nominations for the 2022 Local Body Elections close off at midday today.

Meanwhile, today is the cut-off date to enrol to vote for the elections.

Anyone enrolled by the end of the day today will receive their voting papers in the post, with those enrolled after today needing to cast a special vote.

It is finals night for the Hawke’s Bay Super 8 Netball competition.

The first game at Pettigrew Green Arena tonight is the playoff for third and fourth at 6pm between Central Sports Vet Services Hawke’s Bay and Hastings High School Old Girls Huias.

The main game is at 7.35p, between Otane Thirsty Whale and All In : Elusive.
