A house in Dannevirke was destroyed by fire on Sunday.

Fire appliances from Dannevirke and Norsewood were called to the blaze on Top Grass Road just after 2.30am Sunday.

The house was fully involved when firefighters arrived.

The occupants of the house escaped unhurt.

Firefighters were on scene for approximately three hours, and a fire safety investigator is looking in to the cause.

Dannevirke’s High Street Bistro has won the People’s Choice Award at the 2022 Manawatu Hospitality Awards.

Started two years ago by father and son duo Brock and Campbell Sprague, High Street Bistro has become a popular joint for both locals and visitors.

The restaurant was named a finalist in four of the awards categories - outstanding front-of-house team, chefs choice outstanding chef, OneMusic outstanding ambience and design, and Nova Energy outstanding regional establishment.

The 55th annual OngaOnga Sevens Tournament is being held today.

17 schools from around Central Hawke’s Bay will part in rugby, netball, football and hockey.

In all, 81 teams will compete today.

An opening ceremony will be held at 9.45 this morning, with the first games underway at 10.30.

Former OngaOnga school student, and women’s rugby player, Plum King will be the special guest this year.
