A house on a rural road near Dannevirke burnt to the ground yesterday.

Fire appliances were called to the Waitahora Road property around 6.15am.

The house was fully involved in fire when two appliances and a tanker arrived from Dannevirke, assisted by another truck and tanker from Weber.

The occupants of the house were able to escape the blaze.

A fire investigator is looking into the cause.

The Takapau and Districts RSA building was broken into on Friday night.

Central FM understands a window was broken at the building.

Police have been advised of the break-in, and anyone with information is asked to ring them.

Two local teams played in the Hawke’s Bay Club Rugby finals at the weekend.

On Friday night, Porangahau played MAC in the Division One final, with MAC winning the Hepa Paewai Memorial Trophy game 28-24.

Waipawa Country United Men’s Rugby played Hastings Rugby & Sport on Saturday, with Hastings winning the Tom Mulligan Cup 29-22.

In the Maddison Trophy final, Taradale retained the title with a 33-28 golden-point win over Napier Tech.

Hawke’s Bay have finished second in the 2022 NZ Vantage National U18 Women’s Hockey Champs.

On Saturday, the Bay played Canterbury in the final, losing 3-1.

Hawke’s Bay finished 2nd on the table for team goals with 29; while CHB’s Emily Brun finished 2nd equal for individual goals across the 21-team competition.

Other local players in the Hawke’s Bay team, Emma Johnson and Tyler Martel, also played well during the tournament.

All three local girls thanked everyone who supported them during the week.
