Waipukurau’s Janet Castell has been named the Royal New Zealand RSA's Volunteer of the Year in the Leadership Category.

Janet is the organisations’ District Support Manager for the Wairarapa/Hawkes Bay/East Coast District, overseeing volunteer Support Advisors delivering support outcomes to veterans and their families. 

The RNZ RSA's Volunteer of the Year is awarded across four categories: Service, Initiative, Teamwork and Leadership.

Nominations for Central Hawke’s Bay Civic Awards close this Thursday.

Nominations can be made for the main Civic honour, or for the Community Service Awards and the Community Organisation of the Year Award.
The Civic Awards were established in 1991, and up to four Civic Honours Awards have been presented annually.
The addition of the Community Service and Community Organisation categories came in following changes in 2019.

The Tararua District Council expects to lift the precautionary Boil Water Notice for Pongaroa later this week.

Damaged components in the supplies UV Reactor were replaced late last week.

Tests on the supply began yesterday, and the Council expects to be able to lift the notice on Thursday following three days of clear test results.

Central Hawke’s Bay has 81 active COVID-19 cases.

17 new cases were reported in the district yesterday.

In Tararua District, there are currently 86 active cases.
