Waipawa residents were being asked to restrict their water use this morning following an overnight shutdown.

The water supply to the entire town was shutdown from 9 o’clock Wednesday night to allow for critical infrastructure upgrades.

The supply was due to be turned back on at 5am, however the Council said in a Facebook post that they were running a little behind schedule.

Chief Executive Doug Tate said there had been delays restoring water to the Abbotsford Road area.

He said flushing of the lines had been underway since 4am to avoid a boil water notice for all of the town.

Mr Tate said they had achieved the right levels of water quality.

A tanker is available at the Waipawa Fire Station for any residents needing water.
