Roading crews are out this morning as some rural roads were closed overnight due to yesterday’s heavy rain.

Mangakuri Road and Clareinch Road were both subject to a full closure, while River Road and Elsthorpe Road were down to a single lane in parts.

Pourerere Beach Road was open to only 4WD vehicles.

The Central Hawke’s Bay District Council said roading crews were out at first light this morning.

Meanwhile the Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Warnings for Hawke’s Bay were lifted last night by the Metservice.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to plan ahead before hitting the road over the Easter break.

NZTA spokesperson Jaclyn Hankin said heavy weather and roadworks could cause delays.

She said the agency was also expecting heavy southbound traffic on SH2 between Hastings and Woodville tomorrow between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

Heavy traffic flows area also expected southbound on Saturday between 10.30am and pm, and from 10.30am to 3.30pm Monday.

With four motor vehicle accidents in the district over the past week, Central Hawke’s Bay Police are asking drivers to take care on the roads this weekend.

Senior Constable Andy Walker said the accidents were the result of a combination of factors.

He said the unexpected can happen, and drivers should take their time, take care and pay attention to the road.
