One person died after a truck overturned at Waitahora yesterday.

Police said emergency services were called at 2.45pm after the truck overturned on Weber Road.

A Police spokesperson said sadly, one person died at the scene.

Weber Road was closed while the Police Serious Crash Unit conducted its investigation.

The road re-opened last night.

Three teenagers were arrested following an incident near the Gull Service Station in Waipukurau last Friday.

Two 14-year-olds were walking to a game of basketball at the Indoor Stadium when one of them was confronted by the group of three and asked to hand over the pair of shoes he was carrying.

One of the trio also took exception to the blue cap he was wearing.

Senior Constable Andy Walker said the three teenagers then set upon the other, and got him on the ground, kicking him and stomping on his head.

He said Police arrested the trio, and they have been charged with a number of offences including assault and aggravated robbery, which is a serious charge.

Mark Wallace of the Puketoi Young Farmers Club will represent the East Coast region at the FMG Young Farmer Grand Final.

Eight competitors vied for the regional honour at a day of competition on Saturday.

Josh Wilkinson placed second, and Ben Gordon third.

Central Hawke’s Bay had 110 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, giving the district 567 active cases.

In Tararua District, active cases sat at 646 – down from the 722 active cases on Monday.
