Hawke’s Bay could see 18,000 cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 over the next 12 months.
Modelling provided to the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board showed the region’s peak cases to be just under 6000 in March, the majority from the unvaccinated population.
Peak hospitalisations are also expected in March at 177 cases.
Meanwhile the DHB reported a further eight new COVID cases yesterday.
The cases are all linked to the Hastings Delta cluster, and brings the regions total to 21.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr Nick Jones, said the people had all been safely isolating and there would be no new associated locations of interest.
COVID-19 testing is available today in CHB at the rear of the CHB Health Centre from 9am to 4pm.
The Takapau Health Centre will also take bookings for tests between 11.30am and 2pm today. The number there is 855 8376.

Visitors to the Inpatient Ward at the Central Hawke’s Bay Health Centre will now be required to wear a surgical mask.
The Hawke’s Bay District Health Board updated its Visitor Policy as of yesterday requiring all visitors to wear surgical masks, including at Hawke’s Bay Hospital.

A man found with 11 undersize paua at Akitio Beach has been dealt with by Fisheries Officers.
The man had 14 paua in total.
Earlier this week Police and the Ministry for Primary Industries said they would be working together on ongoing recreational fishing issues at Akitio.

The Red Traffic Light setting has seen the launch of Parkrun in Central Hawke’s Bay postponed.
CHB was due to become the 37th Parkrun location from February 5th, however Nicky Heremaia from Sport Hawke’s Bay said the start would be postponed until such time as Hawke’s Bay was back in the Orange Traffic Light setting.
