A feasibility study on sporting facilities in Dannevirke has now been completed, with a proposal for a new community sporting hub at the Upper Domain.

Resident Tom Castles says there has been a local committee for quite a while looking at sport complexes in Dannevirke.

He says a close eye has been kept on what has been happening in Central Hawke’s Bay, with the development of the hockey turf, netball courts and the Centralines Sports Park.

Mr Castles says something similar is proposed for Dannevirke.

He says over the years there has been a proliferation of facilities in Dannevirke, but this latest proposal would put all of them in one place at the Upper Domain.

The Tararua District Council says the committee has a number of steps and hurdles to get through over the next few years.

Takapau Primary School, and Central and Southern Eventing Assn are the latest recipients of funds from the Takapau Centennial Trust.

Trust Chair Lincoln Taylor said there was a limited number of applicants this year, which was quite surprising, considering the turmoil this year has brought most community organisations.

He said the trust grants are there to assist community and individual projects, and the Centennial Trust take pride in supporting the Takapau Community.

This year sees the retirement of one of the last remaining founding trustees, Mac White.

Mr White served as chairman for the last 7 years, following the retirement of Barry Mabin.

The Trust was setup in 1978 following the Takapau centennial celebrations, 43 years ago.

Lincoln Taylor acknowledged the huge contribution founding members have given to their community, and thanked Mr White for staying on one last year to mentor new trustees.
