Local fire brigades will take part in a training day in and around the OngaOnga Village tomorrow.

Four fire trucks with crews of four will be responding to “staged scenarios” within the village and at two sites on properties outside the village.

Crews will be based outside the OngaOnga Hall, with the scenarios running from 8 in the morning until around 3 in the afternoon.

The Bebbington and Rankin Shields will be on the line tomorrow, with two games of rugby at Matthews Memorial Park in Tikokino.

Bebbington Shield holders – Central – face a challenge from Dannevirke at 2.30pm.

Prior to that, the Rankin Shield, which hasn’t been played for for a number of years, will be played for between the Central and Dannevirke Colts teams at 12.30pm.

The Leopard Hotel will run a supporters bus to the grounds.

Anyone interested can contact the Leopard to book a seat.

Nominations close today for the Wackrow Memorial Youth Award in Dannevirke.

Nominees between 14 and 19 years of age are being sought for the annual award, in memory of the late Constable Graeme Wackrow, who died while serving the NZ Police in Dannevirke.

Nomination forms are available from Dannevirke High School, Dannevirke Police or the Tararua District Council.

Winners will be announced at a special function on the 24th of August.

New World Waipukurau has sold another second division winning Lotto ticket.

Wednesday nights draw saw 10 ticket holders win $16,627 by winning second division, including one from New World.

It is the second 2nd Division ticket sold within a week at the store, with a ticket for last Saturdays nights draw worth more than $18,000.
