The CHB Lions Club Bookarama kicks off for 2021 today.,

Organisers have been busy setting up the CHB Municipal Theatre in Waipawa, with thousands of books, puzzles, CD’s and toys all entered.

The Bookarama runs from 9am to 4pm today and tomorrow, and Sunday 9am to 2pm.

A family dog died in an accident near Pukeora yesterday.

Emergency services were called to a two car collision at the intersection of SH2 and Pukeora Scenic Drive about 4.30pm .

While no humans were injured, it is understood a 14-year old Labrador died.

Central Hawke's Bay's MPs Kieran McAnulty and Anna Lorck are calling on Kiwibank to keep its Waipukurau branch open, following the bank's announcement that it will not be closing any more regional branches for the rest of 2021.

Kieran McAnulty said two weeks ago, Kiwibank announced the closure of the Waipukurau branch, then yesterday put a moratorium on any more closures before the end of the year, while its trial of regional hubs is completed.

"We're encouraging Kiwibank to stay open for another eight and a half months and be part of a solution for this rural community.
