URGENT ALL NON ESSENTIAL WATER USE RESTRICTION IN PLACE - WAIPAWA AND OTANE

Central Hake's Bay District Council team have identified in a major leak in the pipeline that supplies the reservoirs from Tikokino Road. We have teams out on site urgently assessing the situation. This has the potential to be on the same scale as the damage to the reservoir pipeline in January 2020.

Please limit all non-essential household water use.

Local Police are advising those heading bush this long weekend to be prepared.

Constable Andy Walker, who is part of Hawke’s Bay Search & Rescue, says with the Roar underway it is a very busy time in the hills.

Police advise trampers and hunters to be prepared with extra food and clothing, and some form of communication.

Mr Walker says a Personal Locator Beacon or an inReach device is recommended in case something goes wrong.

Today is the final day for public submissions on the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council’s draft Long Term Plan.

Aging and failing infrastructure is forecast to cost Council significantly in the coming years, with some of the district’s pipes over 100 years old.

The Council has extensively consulted with the community over the past month, with community meetings, bus trips to the district landfill and wastewater plants, and by using social media to garner as much public feedback as possible.

Submissions need to be in to the Council by the close of business today.

The Waipukurau and Districts RSA is seeking volunteers to help with its annual Poppy Day collection next month.

Poppy Day, which raises money for RSA Welfare, is being held on Friday the 16th of April.

Collectors will be situated outside New World Waipukurau, the RSPCA Op-Shop, Countdown Waipukurau, and Riddifords Sportsworld.
