Being held over Easter Weekend, the Pongaroar has three sections – open, women and junior.
Registrations must be in with organisers by tonight, as no late entries will be accepted for the competition, which generally attracts hundreds of hunters.
Hunting will take place on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday, with the weigh-in at the Pongaroa Hotel between midday and 2pm on Sunday.
The event is a fundraiser for the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter.
Details are available on The Pongaroar Facebook page.

Wairarapa MP Kieran McAnulty says he is extremely disappointed that Kiwibank is to close its Waipukurau branch.
Last Friday Kiwibank announced the branch would close in June.
The move to close Waipukurau, and a number of others around the country was proposed some weeks ago.
Mr McAnulty says he wrote to Kiwibank during its submission and consultation process, and asked a number of questions.
He says he believes there is a particular responsibility on Kiwibank to provide banking services to rural areas more so than other banks given its ownership structure.
Mr McAnulty says he totally accepts the nature of banking is changing, but he says in areas such as Central Hawke’s Bay the elderly are not used to a digital based service, and there are those that have insufficient internet coverage.
