Will Foley Announces Mayoral Bid with Common-Sense Vision for Central Hawke’s Bay

Longtime Central Hawke’s Bay resident and fourth-generation farmer Will Foley has officially launched his campaign for Mayor in the 2025 local government elections, pledging a “common-sense approach” to leadership and a strong focus on unity, financial sustainability, and community connection.

With deep roots in the district and a lifetime of service in both rural and civic spheres, Foley says his campaign will prioritise bringing urban and rural communities closer together while tackling the rising cost of living and the strain of increasing rates.

“Our rural communities are the backbone of our district, contributing immensely to our economy and way of life,” said Foley. “Equally, our urban towns are the heart of our services and growth. My vision is to ensure that every voice—whether from our bustling towns or our productive farmlands—is heard, valued, and actively participates in shaping our shared future. We are one Central Hawke’s Bay.”

Foley’s campaign centres on practical, financially responsible governance that acknowledges current pressures on households while also planning smartly for the future.

“We must invest in infrastructure, absolutely—but we have to do it wisely,” he said. “It's about balancing the need for essential services with the ability of our residents to afford them. That means responsible spending, open communication, and a focus on what really matters.”

Rather than focusing on past decisions, Foley is calling for a forward-looking, solutions-based approach that involves all parts of the community.

“It’s time to focus on strategies that bring stability and real progress,” he said. “I want to see families not just surviving, but feeling confident in their future—setting goals, contributing to our community, and knowing they’re supported.”

Will Foley is encouraging all residents to connect with his campaign, share their ideas, and be part of a collaborative vision for a stronger, more resilient Central Hawke’s Bay.
