The rider of a dirt-bike was flown to Hawke’s Bay Regional Hospital following an accident on Pourerere Beach Road on Saturday.

Emergency services were called about 12.30pm.

The rider was said to have moderate injuries and was reported to be undergoing surgery on his foot yesterday.

One person died in a single vehicle crash in Hastings on Saturday.

Police said the accident happened on Pakowhai Road around 7.30 Saturday night.

A spokesperson said a car hit a power pole, with one person fatally injured.

One other person in the car was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

Orange Strong Wind Warnings remain in place for Hawke’s Bay and Tararua District this morning.

Wind gusts of up to 120km/hr were forecast for Hawke’s Bay south of Napier, and damaging gusts of up to 130km/hr for Tararua District overnight.

Local power crews have been kept busy overnight with a number of outages.

Despite the high winds, Fire & Emergency NZ’s incident reporting site had two calls in CHB and three in Tararua related to the weather overnight.

The Magpies had a 57-7 win over the Manawatu Turbos in their final round-robin home game in the Bunnings Warehouse NPC on Friday night.

The win sees Hawke’s Bay move up to 6th place on the competition table.

This week they will play Southland on Saturday afternoon in Invercargill.
