Members of the Public Service Association that work for the Tararua District Council have given notice of strike action next week.

Members will stop work from 1pm to 5pm next Monday and for a full day on Tuesday 1 August.

PSA Organiser Dolly Larkins said members would also take their breaks at the same time and not work extra hours or overtime beginning yesterday through until the 13th of October.

The PSA represents workers from Dannevirke, Eketahuna, Pahiatua and Woodville.

Dolly Larkins says they’ve been bargaining since November last year, working to achieve an acceptable deal.

She says high staff turnover has left members struggling to cover the work of vacant jobs, and pay, especially for long-term staff, has lagged behind the rising cost of living.

During next week’s strike action, PSA members are encouraged to volunteer in community services.
