The Hawke’s Bay Disaster Relief Trust has approved further payments of just over $710,000 to 110 applicants in its latest round of grants.

Applications for phase 2 funding from the Trust close tomorrow.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Chair Hinewai Ormsby said they have moved to a point where the Trust is distributing funds faster than what is coming in.

She said should further donations be received in the future, they will potentially re-open the fund.

Applications will close off at 5pm tomorrow.

A dropout on State Highway 2 north of Dannevirke is finally getting repaired.

The dropout occurred over a year ago, with traffic management in place since then.

Waka Kotahi says the work will take about eight weeks and will include installing drainage pipes to divert water away from the area.

The section of highway, about seven kilometres north of Dannevirke, will be reduced to one lane under stop/go management while the work is underway.
