The Central Hawke’s Bay Ross Shield Team has had a good response from farmers so far to a stock drive.

The team is raising funds to go towards costs with this year’s Ross Shield Tournament being held in Napier.

Spokesperson Graeme Fisher said they have had about 30 to 40 sheep donated so far, with he and Kurt Mackie heading out this week to collect more from the Omakere area.

Nominations are being taken for this years Wackrow Memorial Youth Award.

Youth aged between 14 and 19 living in the north Tararua Ward are eligible for nomination for the prestigious award, presented in memory of Constable Graeme Wackrow, who died while serving with the NZ Police in Dannevirke.

Last year the three nominees shared the award due to the calibre of the entries.

The judging panel look at nominees achievements and endeavours in areas such as community service, contributions to organisations and groups, and an interest in helping others.

Nomination forms are available from the Tararua District Council, and close on July 31.

Police are seeking information following a fatal vehicle incident in Hastings yesterday.

Police said a person was found deceased following a single-vehicle crash on Frederick Street just before 5pm.

Anyone who saw a small green Toyota hatchback on Tomoana Road around 4.50pm is asked to contact Police.

Police said the car may have possibly been on the incorrect side of the road between Cornwall Road and Frederick Street at the time.

The NZ Blood Service’s Mobile Collection Unit will be in Central Hawke’s Bay tomorrow.

Anyone wanting to donate blood can do so at St Mary’s Church Hall in Waipukurau between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

Donors can book via the NZ Blood Service website, but walk-ins are welcome tomorrow.
