State Highway 2 between Wairoa and Napier will reopen this Sunday.
The highway has been closed since February when Cyclone Gabrielle devastated the area.
Waka Kotahi says for safety reason, initially the road will only be open from 7am to 6pm.
The agency says roadworkers have been able to restore the road faster than anticipated, and a Bailey bridge now spans the Waikare Gorge where the permanent bridge has been washed away.
Waka Kotahi says in total, there were 100 damaged sites across the stretch of SH2.
The new Bailey bridge will be blessed by local iwi tomorrow.

Local residents, the elderly in particular, are being warned to look out for a new scam.
Senior Constable Andy Walker said people receive a call from a person pretending to be from the ANZ Fraud Squad and ask them to go and purchase Neosurf giftcards.
The victim is then asked to provide the activation code.
Mr Walker said one person lost about $2000.
He said it is very hard to trace back where the cards have been activated, and said it is something banks would never do.
