A number of local hockey players have been named in the Hawke’s Bay teams to play in the Vantage National U18 Tournament in Dunedin in July.

Emily Brun and Emma Johnson have been named in the women’s team, with Matt Gray, Chris Deed and Viggo Pedersen named in the men’s side.

The Colliers CHB Premier Rugby Team will play a midweek game at Central Park in Waipukurau tonight.

The premier teams in the Hawke’s Bay competition have two games this week.

Central will play Havelock North with kick-off 7pm.

Four former Central Hawke’s Bay College students were inducted into the College’s Hall of Honour at a special ceremony last Thursday.

Two of the inductees – military historian Patrick Bronte, and Robert Taylor, a member of top New Zealand band Dragon – were named as inductees in 2021 and 2022 respectively, however COVID restrictions meant a ceremony couldn’t be held.

One of the first inductees in 2016 – top diplomat Chris Seed, who is now the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – was also welcomed back on Thursday as he was unable to attend at the time.

The latest inductee is agricultural researcher Richard Hunter.
