Cyclist Regan Gough will return home from Australia with a silver medal.
Regan was part of the New Zealand men's team pursuit competing at the Tissot UCI World Cup in Brisbane over the weekend.
The Kiwi team was only one second outside the national record in qualifying - second fastest in 3:51.153 - one second behind hosts Australia.
They then went on to smash their New Zealand record with a stunning
3:48.244 performance in the first round, the fastest ride of the competition, and only 0.2s outside the world record to earn a place in the gold medal ride against Australia.
The Australians eventually won the men's team pursuit, with the Kiwi's claiming the silver medal.
