Construction on a shared pathway for walkers and cyclists between Waipawa and Waipukurau is expected to begin in the middle of next year.

New Zealand Transport Agency senior project manager, Rob Partridge, said the path would provide a separate area for cyclists and walkers.

Around 4.2km of path will be built on the eastern side of State Highway
2 and Tapairu Road.

The path has long been lobbied for by mayors, councillors and community groups.
