Sport New Zealand To Visit Hawke's Bay

Sport interest groups will learn more about the strategic direction of Government Crown Agency and funder Sport New Zealand when its road show comes to the region next week.
Sport New Zealand, formally known as SPARC (Sport & Recreation New Zealand) has a new strategy and has also set up a new entity for elite sport called High Performance New Zealand.
The road show visit by chief executive Peter Miskimmin and senior managers is on February 17 at Pettigrew.Green Arena in Taradale.
Mr Miskimmin will outline the organisation’s priority areas and how these align with what’s happening in Hawke’s Bay.

Sport Hawke’s Bay chief executive Colin Stone said the new name better reflects and aligns with the regional sport trusts, like Sport Hawke’sBay and more importantly clearly states what role of the organisation.
“Acronym’s like SPARC are always a bit obscure, whereas Sport New Zealand tells the community that the organization is focused on sport and recreation throughout New Zealand.
“The name has changed, but their aim, like ours is still the same – to have more kids playing and enjoying sport and more adults participating and through High Performance New Zealand, more winners on the world stage,” Mr Stone said.

Sport New Zealand chief executive Peter Miskimmin will brief sport administrators on the organisation’s revised strategy and latest initiatives including High Performance New Zealand and the targeted codes.
The chosen sports are athletics, bike, tennis and basketball. They join current priority sports such as Gymsports, Rugby, Football, Rugby League, Cricket, Hockey, and Netball. Mr Stone said it was important that key local sport stakeholders attended the road show as this will send a strong message that sport, recreation and its benefits socially and economically are vital in the region.
“Sport Hawke’s Bay is one of the top performing regional sport trusts in the country and we’re having a strong impact in Hawke’s Bay, thanks to our partnership with Sport NZ”.

The Sport New Zealand roadshow will take place in the Lady Pettigrew Theatre in the Pettigrew.Green Arena in Taradale on Friday February 17 from 2-4pm
