A woman using a public toilet in Waipukurau had her handbag stolen recently.

Senior Constable Glynn Sharp said the woman stopped to use the toilet near the Visitor Information Centre on Saturday February 3rd, at around 10.30am.

She was in a silver Suzuki Swift, which she forgot to lock.

Mr Sharp said an offender stole her handbag while she was away from the car, and is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Police.


The Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union has appointed its current Commerical Manager to the role of CEO.

Chairman Brendan Mahony said the HBRU board conducted an extensive and robust search and interview process before deciding Jay Campbell was the best candidate to lead the province forward, replacing Mike Bishop who held the role for the past 12 years.

Mr Campbell has been Commercial Manager for ten years.

Mr Mahony said Jay has been highly successful, loyal and committed in his commercial role with the Union, and is highly regarded and respected by his peers throughout the rugby industry.

Jay Campbell said he feels extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to lead the province into a new and exciting era for Hawke’s Bay Rugby.
