Central Hawke's Bay voters can now cast their vote for the upcoming general election.

Advance voting stations open across the country today, and are open until Friday the 22nd of September - the day before the election.

In CHB the advance voting station is at the Chook House in Northumberland Street, Waipukurau.

Advanced voting manager Virginia Caro says people can cast ordinary votes for the Wairarapa, Tukituki and Ikaroa-Rawhiti electorates at the centre.

Those who are outside their enrolled electorate can also cast an early special vote.

The CHB advance voting centre is open from 11am - 3pm Monday through Friday, and from 10am - 2pm this Saturday.

Next week the hours will change to 10am - 4pm from Monday until Thursday, and 9am - 3pmn on Friday the 22nd.

An Otane man has been charged with careless driving and drink driving following a motor vehicle accident last week.

The 29-year old's car rolled on State Highway 2 near Drumpeel Road last Wednesday.

Police say the man returned a breath alcohol reading of 870 micrograms per litre of breath, and also admitted to texting while driving.

Another loss for the Magpies in the Mitre 10 Cup.

Playing Otago at McLean Park yesterday, Otago scored nine tries to Hawke's Bays three in the 64-21 win.

At half-time, the southern visitors were up 31-7.

The Magpies also sustained further injuries - with winger Sam McNicol sustaining a rib injury, and prop Mark Braidwood a broken cheekbone.

The Magpies next game is against Counties Manukau in Auckland this Sunday afternoon.
