Hawke's Bay Police are advising owners of trailers of a number of steps they can take to prevent them from being stolen.

Over the last month, several trailers have been stolen around the region.

Police say steps people can take include making sure a vehicle is parked in front of the trailer in a driveway, or store it out of sight if possible.

Owners can also take the wheels off the trailer if they're not going to use it for some time, and take the number plate off - something which will attract the attention of Police.

Another step is to make the trailer stand out with a paint job, or by putting permanent markings on it.

Hastings Police are looking for 48-year-old John Charles Kenneth Jones, who has a warrant to arrest in relation to a serious assault that occurred in Hastings last month.

Police believe he is being helped to continue avoiding arrest, and a Police spokesperson says anyone who is assisting Jones should be aware that they are likely to come to their attention.

Police recommend that people do not approach or engage with Jones, who is considered violent and dangerous.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can contact 111 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line.

Around 200 entries have been received for the Longridge Tour de Beautiful cycle event this weekend.

Being held on Sunday, the event will celebrate its 25th anniversary, with four courses - the Raiseys Original 10km, Bay Motorcycles 25km, BM Accounting 55km, and the main race, the Ruahine Ford 100km.

This year will also see the option for teams to take part in the 100km race.

Normally about a hundred riders also register on the day of the event.

The Tour de Beautiful is part of a busy weekend for the Cycling CHB Club.

Tomorrow riders will take on a new mountain bike course, which begins at Russell Park, and will enter the recently built Mountain Bike Park, before finishing back at Russell Park.

A criterium will also be held tomorrow afternoon in Waipukurau, with a Meet & Greet at the Waipukurau Civic Theatre tomorrow night.

The vast majority of previous winners of the Tour de Beautiful, including the inaugural winner, will be present at the Meet & Greet.

Tickets for this cost $10.

Full details, and registrations, are on the Cycling CHB website www.cyclingchb.co.nz.
