Wow what a fantastic read this was.  490 pages of addictive reading - a great excuse to turn the tv off!

This is a tale of suspense spanning the years 1900-1914, 1975 and 2005.  Thirty eight year old Cassandra's beloved grandmother Nell has just died.  Nell has left her a book of dark and intriguing fairytales written by Eliza Makepeace - the Victorian authoress who disappeared mysteriously in the early twentieth century - as well as a cliff-top cottage on the other side of the world.   

Cassandra journies to the cottage in Cornwall and so begins a quest to find out the truth about their history, their family and their past.
